Experts from VEOLIA and CARTIF, Elena Rojo de Benito - Innovation Engineer at VEOLIA, Fernando Burgoa Francisco - Project Manager at CARTIF, and Francisco Corona Encinas - WalNUT Coordinator and Investigator at CARTIF, recently opened their pilot plant 1 door in the region of Castilla y León.
The interviews delve into how the pilot plant operates, the challenges faced, and the results expected from this innovative approach to wastewater management and sustainable agriculture. This facility is pioneering a two-stage microalgae-based system to treat industrial wastewater, effectively removing contaminants while generating nutrient-rich biomass. The biomass is then processed into sustainable, bio-based fertilisers, exemplifying the project’s commitment to environmental stewardship and circular economy principles in the region.
